Maldives Airports Company Limited (MACL) has revealed that the Noovilu Seaplane Terminal in Velana International Airport (VIA) has received an international award.
MACL said the terminal won the Global Best Projects Award which is an international award given by Engineering News-Record (ENR) to recognise projects in the construction industry. The terminal won the award beating 34 other projects in 18 countries. MACL participated in the award ceremony online. ENR highlighted the measures taken by MACL to overcome the challenges faced by the COVID-19 pandemic and its efforts to overcome the obstacles encountered in the shortage of labour.
The Noovilu Seaplane Terminal at VIA is the world's largest seaplane terminal. The construction of the seaplane terminal was contracted to China's Beijing Urban Construction Group (BUCG) at a cost of USD58 million.
