Development brought while world was in trouble should be acknowledged

Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has said that the development projects across the country have continued under the far-sighted policy of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih despite the obstacles.

Speaking at the function to hand over the newly reclaimed land on Dhaandhoo in Gaafu Alifu Atoll to the island council, Minister Shahid said that many of the projects being completed were started during very difficult times. He said that the Maldives earns most of its income from tourism and when income sources were closed and importing countries were forced to close down, there was an impact on the implementation of projects. He, however, said that the work should not be stopped altogether and one such project is the reclamation of land on Dhaandhoo.

Additionally, Minister Shahid said that President Solih gave special priority to the safety of the people while implementing projects worth millions. He said that the biggest proof is that such a scene was not seen in any street or hospital in the Maldives where individuals begged for medical assistance and pleaded for their lives on the streets during a global crisis.

Meanwhile, Parliamentarian Yaqoob Abdulla said the government is implementing many projects and the pace of development is stable. He said that many projects are underway in the three islands of the Dhaandhoo constituency alone. He also said that some projects have been completed while others are being announced.

The government has announced the launch of a housing project and other services on the island.
