Gov't opens new mosque in Vaadhoo

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has opened a new mosque in Vaadhoo, Raa Atoll.

The newly built mosque was officially opened by the Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir. The mosque named Masjid Usman Bin Affan is air-conditioned, has an accommodation fit for 300 worshippers, both men and women, and a cemetery developed along with the mosque.

The construction of the mosque was first started in 2019. However, the previous contractor did not complete the project by the scheduled date. Therefore, the Islamic ministry cancelled the agreement with the contractor and the unfinished works of the mosque were then completed by Hyman Construction Private Limited at a total cost of USD340,000, including USD65,000 paid to the previous contractor.

During his visit to Vaadhoo, Minister Zahir met with the island council members. The meeting discussed the provision of assistance and cooperation from relevant sectors.
