Maldives Airport Company Limited (MACL) has said that it has not taken any action that could lead to corruption in its procurement system.
In a press release following an article published by an online media alleging corruption in taking out insurance at Velana International Airport (VIA), MACL said it has suspended the public tender process under its procurement policy for the procurement of insurance for VIA, cancelling all bids and the tender process. The decision was taken in response to concerns raised by the Board of Directors regarding problems in the procurement and evaluation process.
As the insurance policies are about to expire and there is no possibility of reopening them for tender, MACL has awarded the contract to Allied Insurance Company of the Maldives, a subsidiary of the State Trading Organisation (STO). The decision was taken by the Board of Directors in accordance with the provisions of the Procurement Policy of MACL.
MACL said it has not violated any rules of its procurement system and has not taken any action that could facilitate corruption. MACL assured to cooperate fully with the relevant authorities in investigating the incident.
