Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has launched a trial of cash card payment for buses.
MTCC said the trial trips will be conducted on January 1-2 to enable customers to pay for the bus travel with cash cards. During the test rounds, customers will be able to pay using contactless MasterCard and Visa cards. Customers now pay for bus services through the RTL application and bus cards.
The state-owned MTCC commenced the minibus service on September 5, 2022. The bus routes have been established to make it easy for school students, office workers, and individuals travelling to hospitals to reach their destinations within 10 minutes from the farthest bus stops. The bus routes are interconnected to areas in Henveiru and Maafannu and each bus stop is a five-minute walk away from the other.
