Flydubai has postponed launching its flights to Addu City until the end of June 2023.
Flydubai, an Emirati government-owned low-cost airline, had earlier decided to commence direct flights to Addu in February. However, the airline is now scheduled to start flights to Addu on June 24.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of Inner Maldives Holidays Private Limited Mohamed Firaq the flights were delayed at the request of tour operators due to the need for more time for marketing. He said tourism opportunities in Addu will be marketed in eight exhibitions before flight operations commence. He said tickets can be purchased now for flights to Addu starting on June 24. He said those who have purchased tickets for flights scheduled to start next month will be able to change their ticket dates with no additional charge, adding those who have already booked tickets and wish to travel during the period will be offered tickets to Dubai from Velana International Airport (VIA) with two days accommodation and free domestic tickets.
Flydubai has decided to fly to Gan International Airport (GIA) in Addu daily from Dubai International Airport connecting 185 countries around the world. The national airline, Maldivian, has also decided to launch connection flights from GIA to Kooddoo Airport to provide easy access to tourists traveling to Gan.
