Water drainage installed on Ungoofaaru roads

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed the installation of water drainage as part of the second phase of the road construction project in Ungoofaaru, Raa Atoll, has been completed.

MTCC revealed the installation of the drainage tank has been completed and about 55% of the settlement tank installation work has been completed. Five main roads on the island will be developed to a modern standard by laying asphalt, under the second phase of the road development project. These include four internal roads and the harbour road.

Ungoofaaru is the capital of Raa Atoll and many people from neighbouring islands travel to the island every day for education, health care, and banking services. However, one of the biggest concerns of the residents and those who come to the island for various purposes is the poor condition of the roads. In an effort to solve the issues faced by the public, the government is working to redevelop the roads in Ungoofaaru. The second phase of the road development project is being carried out at a very fast pace.

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted the road redevelopment project in Ungoofaaru to MTCC on October 31, 2021, at a cost of USD4.9 million. The first phase of the road development project in Ungoofaaru was also carried out by MTCC. The first phase included asphalt laying, installation of stormwater drainage systems, speed breakers, road signs, and street lights on 14 roads of Ungoofaaru.
