President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has vowed that the administration will fast-track the opening of southern fish processing plants.
Speaking at a campaign event of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Addu City, President Solih said that the administration will work to offer better rates to fishermen for their catch. He noted the numerous concerns of fishermen and highlighted that fisheries is one of the most profitable sectors in the country.
In addition, President Solih vowed to make efforts to open fish processing plants in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and Addu City as soon as possible and develop the fisheries sector. He also noted the rise in the global price of fuel and said that the administration is subsidising fuel to maintain the current rates.
