MTCC to build harbours in Omadhoo and Rasdhoo, coastal protection in Vaadhoo

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been tasked with developing the harbours in Omadhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll, and Rasdhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll, as well building coastal protection structures in Vaadhoo, Raa Atoll.

The agreements were signed by the CEO of MTCC Adam Azim and Shaana Farooq, the Director General at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Fathimath.

As per the agreement, MTCC will be developing the Omadhoo harbour within 630 days at a cost of USD4.7 million. The state-owned company is tasked with dredging 50,000cbm of the harbour and 12,000cbm of the channel, building a 398m breakwater, 208m revetment, and a 346m quay wall. The scope of works also includes building a mooring ring and installing a mooring buoy, building a ramp and access platform, a concrete jetty, and installing navigation and street lights.

Additionally, MTCC will be developing the Rasdhoo harbour within one year at a cost of USD5.6 million. The company is tasked with building a 104,000cbm sand-filled breakwater revetment, a 64m breakwater, 42m submerged breakwater, 1,736m revetment, 224m groyne, and 97m quay wall. The scope of work also includes installing navigation and street lights and building a platform and two concrete bridges.

Furthermore, MTCC will be developing coastal protection structures in Vaadhoo within 300 days at a cost of USD941,000. The company is tasked with building a 55m groyne and refilling the beach with sand.
