All land reclamation pledges to be completed by end of term

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured that the pledges to reclaim land in the islands will be fulfilled by the end of the presidential term. He made the remarks while addressing a campaign gathering held with members of the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Dhidhdhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll.

During the gathering, President Solih said efforts are ongoing to hand over the remaining land reclamation projects to a foreign company. He said the aim is to complete all the land reclamation pledges made to solve land constraint issues by the end of his first term.

Furthermore, President Solih announced plans to develop an airport in Dhidhdhoo after reclaiming land. He also announced that 25 more rowhouses will be added to the 75 rowhouses development project currently underway on the island.

Dhidhdhoo has a population of over 5,000 and the lack of adequate housing is one of the main problems faced by residents of the island due to the rising population. The project is part of the government’s efforts to resolve housing issues faced across the country.
