Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that the development of the harbours in Felivaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, will be completed by April. The state-owned company is developing three harbours in Felivaru to facilitate an export jetty, a fish processing jetty, and a local jetty.
Speaking to journalists after inspecting the project sites, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adam Azim highlighted the importance of the project for the national economy and said the aim is to continue the fieldwork at a fast pace and handover the harbours to the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFC) by April.
Additionally, Azim said that MTCC has been tasked with developing various harbours to improve the fisheries sector. He said the projects include the harbours in Mulak in Meemu Atoll, Hulhumeedhoo in Addu City, Kandu Oiy Giri in Kaafu Atoll, and Kooddoo, Gaafu Alifu Atoll.
The three harbours are being developed as part of the Felivaru Fisheries Complex upgrading project, which is carried out with the assistance of the EXIM Bank of India. The project includes the development of a 4000MT cold storage facility, a 200MT brine freezing facility, an 80MT refrigerated seawater facility, as well as a 100MT fish processing factory.
