MTCC to complete Thinadhoo Port and reclamation projects in 2023

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that it plans to complete land reclamation and the development of the regional port in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, in 2023.

Speaking to journalists after observing the project site, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adam Azim said MTCC aims to complete the projects as soon as possible, ahead of the official deadline in 2024. As such, he said teams are working 24 hours a day at the site.

Additionally, CEO Azim said the project site is separate from Thinadhoo and a bridge will be built to connect the two areas. He said land is being reclaimed at the site and expressed confidence that the projects will significantly boost the local economy.

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure contracted MTCC to complete the land reclamation project in 2022. The state-owned company is required to complete the project at a cost of USD8 million. The scope of the project includes reclamation operations of 10.6 hectares, construction of a 1521m revetment, a 555m quay wall, sheet pile works of 166m, and installation of 4,492sqm pavement, bollards, fenders, and lights.

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) contracted MTCC to develop a regional port in Thinadhoo in 2020. MTCC is tasked with completing the project at a cost of USD1.2 million. The scope of the work includes the construction of the port administration building, a guardhouse building, a warehouse building, a workshop building, installation of light posts, and a sewer network.
