Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun the construction of a jetty for smaller sea vessels as part of the ongoing renovation and expansion of the harbour in Hithaadhoo, Baa Atoll.
MTCC stated that the jetty for small vessels near the outer canal and the excavation of the existing harbour is currently being carried out. MTCC stated 57% of the dredging work of the existing harbour has been completed and 32% of the construction of the concrete jetty has been completed.
MTCC revealed the scope of the jetty project includes the dredging of a total area of 19,030cbm, the construction of a 22m of groyne, 495m outer canal, 90m revetment, 350m road canal, a bridge, harbour pavement, construction of a ramp, a concrete platform, and the installation of canal and harbour lights.
MTCC said most of the renovation of the old section of the harbour has now been completed. The road will be leveled with geo bags and concrete to prevent sand from being pulled. Most of the pavement work in the area has also been completed. The cost of the project is USD1.2 million with the addition of a special jetty for small sea vessels.
