IASL to bring two aircrafts for long-haul flights

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) has revealed that it is seeking the acquisition of two Airbus A330-200 aircraft for the national airline, Maldivian, to resume long-haul flights.

Maldivian previously said it decided to abandon the largest aircraft in its fleet and acquire new aircraft. The lease for the largest aircraft in the fleet, an Airbus A321, expires in March. Therefore, the company has expressed its intention to further strengthen its services by procuring a long-haul aircraft.

The new aircraft will be leased for a period of six years. The company has not yet announced the destinations the new aircraft will carry passengers. The 200-seat aircraft will have a range of about 13,450km.

Maldivian currently has more than 23 aircraft in its fleet and currently operates international flights to Trivandrum and Cochin in India and Dhaka in Bangladesh. IASL also brought in two ATR 72-600 aircraft for domestic flights. The first aircraft began operations on January 21 and the second aircraft began operations on January 22. IASL stated that another aircraft will arrive in February.
