Ministry of Education has announced the new academic year 2023 will begin on August 6. The start date of the academic year, which previously started in January, has been changed from 2021 onwards.
The academic year 2023 will start on August 6 with the first term examination for students in Grades 7-12 to be held from August 20 -September 7, as per the academic calendar released by the education ministry. Meanwhile, the studies for Grade 11 will commence on September 3. The first term holidays start on December 21 and the second term will start on January 7, 2024. according to the academic calendar. The academic year will end on June 13, 2024, and the next academic year will start on July 31, 2024.
Announcing the decision to commence the academic year in August, the education ministry said the change was brought following extensive discussions with students, teachers, parents, and relevant authorities. The change expects to allow students to make use of internationally available opportunities, while it will also allow parents working in the tourism industry to spend the end-of-school holidays with their families.
