Road Development Corporation (RDC) has begun the redevelopment of the fifth segment of Ameenee Magu.
The fifth segment includes the block consisting of Sinamale’ flats to Imaduddin School. RDC said the segment work will be completed without the laying of asphalt and the road will be opened to the public before Ramadan. The Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has not yet decided to contract the laying of asphalt to any other company.
Ameenee Magu is one of the busiest roads in Male’ City due to the high number of office buildings and schools and is one of the few roads that run across the length of the capital city. It also is the main network for utility services and connects the traffic to all areas of the city. However, the road has been in poor condition for years and causes difficulties for vehicles and pedestrians. RDC has completed the first four segments of Ameenee Magu.
RDC contracted MTCC to laying asphalt on the first four segment of Ameenee Magu as it has not been given a space for the machine brought to lay asphalt on Ameenee Magu. The first four segments have been completed and traffic signs are being installed. The road will be opened to the public once completed.
The modernisation of Ameenee Magu, one of the main roads connecting all the wards of the city, is being carried out in 13 segments. The project involves paving the whole 1.7km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million.
