New MIFCO fish processing vessel to arrive in April

The Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO) has stated that the first of four fish processing vessels to be added to its fleet will arrive in April.

MIFCO stated that the new fish processing vessel called Jazeera 103 is scheduled to be brought from South Korea in the first week of April. The vessel will be equipped with two cranes on both sides to process fish simultaneously. The vessel also has a freezing capacity of 120MT of fish and a storage capacity of 420MT.

MIFCO stated that the remaining three vessels have already been registered and are docked in Thailand. MIFCO is working on some changes to be brought to these vessels to facilitate the fish processing operation. Each of these vessels will have a storage capacity of 60MT.

In 2021, MIFCO acquired a vessel with a storage capacity of 300MT and a freezing capacity of 120MT. MIFCO has also acquired a carrier vessel with a capacity of 2,400MT for fish export.

MIFCO has stated that the fisheries sector has improved and the number of fish processed has also increased. As such, MIFCO is making efforts to increase its capacity by acquiring more fish processing vessels and establishing more fish processing facilities in different parts of the country.
