MTCC says 25,000 individuals using bus services daily during Ramadan

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that 25,000 individuals are using bus services daily in Male' City during the holy month of Ramadan. MTCC is offering bus services in Male', Hulhumale' and Villiamle'.

Speaking to PSM News, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Adam Azim said that more than 1,000 buses have been operating daily so far during Ramadan. He said that about 25,000 individuals are travelling daily on these buses.

Additionally, Azim said the demand for buses increases during Ramadan due to shorter office and school hours. As such, he said that additional buses will be deployed to areas where there is high demand in the future. He said the decision to increase the number of buses is due to the congestion on the Sinamale' Bridge and the journey between Male' and Hulhumale' takes a long time. As such, he said the bus trip takes about 45 minutes and efforts are underway to get passengers to their destinations as soon as possible.

MTCC is also providing bus services from 0600-1200hrs during Ramadan. However, three bus routes in Male’ City will be suspended for three hours each day. MTCC stated that the Orchid Route, Ameenee Route, and Sosun Route will be suspended from 1800hrs to 2100hrs as the buses face hindrances due to the numerous parked vehicles and traffic congestion near mosques. The other bus routes in Male’, Villimale’, and Hulhumale’ will be suspended from 1800hrs to 1900hrs.
