MPL cleared onions and eggs the most in Ramadan

The Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has revealed that eggs and onions were the most cleared perishable goods during the holy month of Ramadan.

The latest statistics published by MPL show that 93,011 tonnes of eggs were cleared by the end of March which is a 57% increase compared to February. MPL also cleared 63,949 tonnes of onions which is a 33% increase in March compared to the 48,170 tonnes cleared in February.

The statistics also show that potato is high in demand during Ramadan. In March, 25,382 tonnes of potatoes were cleared which is a 27% increase compared to the 19,997 tonnes in February. In addition, 31,491 tonnes of watermelon were cleared in March which is a 21% increase compared to the 25,923 tonnes in February. As for bananas, 12,319 tonnes were cleared in March which is a 27% increase compared to the 9,693 tonnes in February.

Meanwhile, STO has also reduced the wholesale price of onions, eggs, and potatoes for the holy month of Ramadan The prices of these products rise in shops and markets due to high demand during Ramadan. Therefore, STO imports these items every Ramadan to provide these items at cheap prices.
