The Ministry of Education has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) to sponsor scholarship programmes for principal training.
The agreement was signed by Permanent Secretary of the Education Ministry Ahmed Ali and Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah. Under the agreement, 10 scholarships for Master's Degree level courses and 110 short-term courses will be sponsored to produce and train competent principals for schools in the Maldives. The two-year programmes are part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) of MWSC.
The education ministry launched the programme in 2022 to address the shortage of trained local principals and ensure the continuous professional development of principals leading schools across the country. As such, 17 principals from the first batch of the programme have completed their training and have now joined schools. The programme seeks to train local principals to lead government-run schools nationwide.
