MWSC completes pipe-laying, tank erection works in Fainu

Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC) has revealed that pipe-laying and tank erection have been completed as part of the water and sewerage development project in Fainu, Raa Atoll,

MWSC revealed that the main water pipe has been buried in the residential area. A total of 99% of the work has already been completed while pipeline work in the newly populated area of ​​the island has not been completed, according to MWSC.

MWSC stated that the two water and rainwater storage containers have been completed and the reverse osmosis (RO) plants are nearing completion. In addition, the junctions and pumping stations to be installed on the roads are currently underway.

Vice President of Fainu Island Council Mohamed Faisal said the construction of water and sewerage pipes in the newly populated area was delayed due to the delay in removing coconut palms grown near the road. He added the roads have now been cleared and the site has been given to the contractor.

The project is expected to provide clean water to 130 households in Fainu with two RO plants, which will generate 20 tonnes of clean water per day. The project will also establish one container capable of preserving 490cbm of water and two containers that can preserve 175cbm of water each. MWSC will be connecting 130 households to the sewerage system.

The total cost of the project is USD4 million. Under the sewerage system, a 4.86 km sewerage network will be established to connect 130 households. It also includes the installation of a pump station and a sea outfall. A special rainwater drainage system will also be established on the island under the project.
