The airport has a 1,200m runway with navigation lights to allow flights to land at night and the terminal has a 150-passenger capacity and is designed to look appealing with a modern aesthetic.

The airport was developed after reclaiming land in islands near Faresmaathoda, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll. The project began in 2021 and aimed to improve the travel system in the southern region and pave the way for the development of local businesses and increase job opportunities. The airport is expected to create new jobs and generate economic activities in Faresmaathoda and the region.
