MTCC to develop Kumundhoo harbour and protect Kinolhas coast

The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has been contracted to complete a coastal protection project in Kinolhas in Raa Atoll, and a harbour development project in Kumundhoo in Haa Dhaalu Atoll. The agreements were signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim and the Director General at the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Fathimath Shaana Farooq.

MTCC is tasked with completing the coastal protection project in Kinolhas within 180 days at a cost of USD743,000 as per the agreements. The scope of the project includes protecting 320m of the eastern coast and 250m of the western coast. It also includes a land reclamation operation of 20,000cbm and the development of a 650m geobag revetment.

Additionally, MTCC is tasked with completing the harbour development project in Kumundhoo within 570 days at a cost of USD4.3 million. The scope of the project includes building a breakwater around a 46,000cbm area, a 40m revetment, and a 60m groyne. It also includes building a 332m quay wall, renovating the existing quay wall, and building a ramp and harbour pavement.
