MPL seeks contractor for construction of Thilafushi bulk port

Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) is seeking a contractor for the construction of a bulk port in Thilafushi, Kaafu Atoll.

MPL has invited interested companies to submit their expressions of interest for the construction of a deep-sea bulk port in Thilafushi by April 26. The project aims to establish a modern, efficient, and sustainable port that can accommodate large bulk cargo vessels and container-cargo carrying vessels. Upon completion of its construction, the newly constructed port will temporarily serve all cargo operations currently carried out at Male’ Commercial Harbour, excluding general/conventional cargo.

The scope of the project will include the construction and commissioning of the port infrastructure including dredging and reclamation, breakwaters, quay walls, apron, roadways, container yard, entry/exit gates, and terminal buildings. It also includes the development of a warehouse area, security posts, and installation and commissioning of cargo handling and scanning equipment. The contractor will also be required to provide ancillary facilities such as warehouses, truck parking, construction and commissioning of utility infrastructure, operation, and maintenance area, as well as provide maintenance and repair services for a specified period after construction.

Interested bidders are required to have relevant experience in the construction of deep-sea commercial ports and possess the necessary financial, technical, and human resources to undertake the project. They are also required to have the financial standing to carry out the project as a contractor-financed engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) contract and have a good track record of completing projects of identical scale and nature on time and within budget.
