SIFCO flats to be completed within three months

The Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF) has revealed that the development of the Sifainge Cooperative (SIFCO) flats will be completed within three months. Vice Chief of Defence Force Brigadier General Abdul Raheem Abdul Latheef made the remark in a special programme aired on Television Maldives (TVM) on the 131st anniversary of MNDF.

Speaking on the programme, Brigadier General Latheef said the government prioritises the welfare of military officers and has taken the initiative in providing them with housing. As such, he said that the SIFCO flats will be completed within three months, after 10 years in development, adding that this will alleviate the concerns of officers and their families. He added that the government has made efforts for the welfare of military officers and their families in the past four years, especially in providing healthcare services and retirement benefits.

The construction of the SIFCO flats began in Hulhumale’ in September 2013. However, the project was stalled for years until the administration contracted Amin Construction Private Limited in 2021 to complete the flats. The flats were designed as luxury three-room apartments and a mock-up room was made available for public viewing in late 2022.
