Gov't declares pledge to build ice plants has been fulfilled

Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan has revealed that President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has fulfilled his pledge to build ice plants across the country. He made the remark at a ceremony held to sign contracts to build ice plants on five islands.

Fenaka Corporation Limited was contracted to build 25-tonne ice plants in Dhidhdhoo in Haa Alifu Atoll, Maamendhoo in Lhaviyani Atoll, Rasdhoo in Alifu Alifu Atoll, Meedhoo in Dhaalu Atoll and Rathafandhoo in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

At the ceremony, Minister Hassan confirmed the completion of the presidential pledge to build ice plants, adding that Fenaka was contracted for the new projects to provide low-cost electricity. In addition, the Managing Director of Fenaka Ahmed Saeed Mohamed guaranteed the project's timely completion and assured that the company will increase the capacity of existing facilities.

The administration has so far built ice plants in 10 regions, which are Maduvvaree in Raa Atoll, Thulhaadhoo in Baa Atoll, Felivaru in Lhaviyani Atoll, Gaafaru in Kaafu Atoll, Feeali in Faafu Atoll, Fuvahmulah City and Hulhumeedhoo in Addu City.
