Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the Maldives recorded the highest number of tourist arrivals in the first four months of 2023 compared to the same past five years.
The statistics from the tourism ministry show that the first four months of this year have set a record for the highest number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives in the past five years. A total of 710,645 tourists visited the Maldives as of May 5 this year, which is an increase of 17.5% compared to the same period in 2022. The statistics also showed that 2019 was the year of the highest number of tourists in the 50 years of tourism in the Maldives. However, the number of tourist arrivals in the first four months of this year increased compared to 2019.
Additionally, the largest number of tourists arrived from Russia with 84,757 arrivals, while 76,999 tourists arrived from India, 67,086 arrived from the United Kingdom (UK), 57,102 arrived from Italy, and 52,186 arrived from Germany.
In addition, a total of 1,235 tourist establishments are open in the Maldives, consisting of 60,580 beds. Around 68% of the beds are in resorts, while 24% are in guesthouses, 5% are in liveaboards, and 3% are in hotels.
