The Maldives National University (MNU) has signed an agreement with the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure to formulate an academic standard for civil engineering programmes.
MNU is tasked with formulating the standard for civil engineering programmes at the diploma, advanced diploma and degree levels within one year and four months at a cost of USD25,000. The agreement was signed by the Vice Chancellor of MNU Dr. Mohamed Shareef and the Director General at the Planning Ministry Ahmed Tholhath.
At the agreement signing ceremony, Director General Tholhath said quality programmes that adhere to the ministry’s standards are needed to develop capable workers for the construction sector. He also said that formulating standards for civil engineering programmes is the beginning and that standards for architecture, construction management, and projects management, will be formulated as well.
Also at the ceremony, Vice Chancellor Shareef said the agreement will strengthen the university’s efforts to improve the quality of courses. He added that the standard will be formulated with assistance from experts in the field.
