The Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) has commenced paving asphalt under the second phase of the road development project in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.
Speaking at the official asphalt laying ceremony, Managing Director of RDC Moosa Ali Manik said that a lot of work has been done since the project officially started, adding the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA), topographic and utility survey, geotechnical and hydrological survey, and the design of the entire project has been completed. He also said that 90% of the pavement work has been completed and 95% of the cable ducts have been installed.
Additionally, Manik said RDC aims to complete paving asphalt on all roads within one and half months and open the roads to the public. He assured the roads developed under the project will be high quality and modern.
Furthermore, Manik said RDC is also working towards creating job opportunities for the public and creating skilled youth. As such, he said that 55 individuals have been provided with job opportunities through the project.
RDC was contracted to complete the second phase of the road development project in Thinadhoo on April 8, 2021. The project involves paving asphalt on 14 roads on the island, which is a total of 6,557m. Some changes have been made to the scope of the project since being contracted to RDC including the development of five unfinished roads, the installation of street lights, and a drainage system. The government has extended the deadline for the completion of the project until August.
