The Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT) has received college status. Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan handed over the certificate granting college status to MIT at a special ceremony with senior officials of the ministry and MIT in attendance.
MIT opened in 2005 as the Center for Career and Technical Education (CCTE). The institute currently offers more than 50 courses in various fields such as tourism and hospitality, professional programmes and projects, mechanical programmes, information technology (IT) and communication-related courses.
Additionally, MIT offers hair and beauty programmes, electrical and electronics programmes as well as civil and building construction programmes, and various courses related to business and office administration. The institute also conducts apprenticeship programmes and vocational education programmes and currently has more than 200 students enrolled in various courses.
