Accounting scholarships awarded to 202 individuals

The Ministry of Higher Education has announced the awarding of scholarships to train 202 chartered professional accountants in the Maldives. These scholarships, fully funded by the government, aim to enhance the accounting sector and provide educational opportunities for aspiring professionals.

The scholarship scheme, which opened on February 2, consists of two categories: 50 places for the public sector and 150 places for the open category. During the application period, a total of 322 individuals applied for the scheme. From this pool, 50 candidates were selected from the public category, and 152 from the open category. The ministry has published the details of the scholarship recipients on its website, and any complaints regarding the results must be submitted to the ministry by July 11.

This marks the second time that the government has offered scholarship opportunities for training chartered professional accountants, with 173 students being awarded scholarships last year. The eligibility for this scholarship is exclusively for Maldivians, reflecting the government's commitment to fostering local talent in the accounting sector.

The scholarship scheme is dedicated to the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and the Chartered Institute of Management Accountants (CIMA). Successful candidates will have the opportunity to pursue ACCA Skills Level and Professional Level courses, as well as CIMA Management Level and Strategic Level courses.

Selected scholars will be granted a maximum of two years to complete the program. In the event that more eligible candidates have applied for the public category, their applications will be considered under the open category.
