The new academic year has begun with 84,000 students.
A total of 73,000 students are enrolled in 216 government-run schools in the new academic year, out of which 25,000 students are in the Greater Male' Region. Ministry of Education stated that more than 7,000 students are enrolled in Grade 1, out of which 2,491 students are in the Greater Male' Region.
Additionally, 156 schools are holding single sessions while satellite schooling are being conducted in six schools. They are in Thinadhoo and Rakeedhoo in Vaavu Atoll, Fehendhoo and Fulhadhoo in Baa Atoll, Kondey in Gaafu Alifu Atoll, and Dhidhdhoo in Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
The education ministry prepared for the new academic year by making structural changes and providing the necessary resources to schools. The ministry has also assigned 6,516 local teachers and 1,843 foreign teachers to the schools.
Furthermore, three new schools have been opened in the Greater Male' Region for the new academic year. They are the new Dharumavantha School building in Male' City, the newly developed Salahuddin School in Hulhumale’ Phase II and the new Centre for Higher Secondary Education (CHSE) building in Hulhumale' Phase I. Along with these schools, a total of four schools in the Greater Male' Region are holding single sessions.
During the past five years, the government has overseen the development of 265 classrooms, 20 multipurpose halls, and 72 other facilities. In addition, projects to develop 800 classrooms, 47 multipurpose halls, and 192 other facilities are already underway in different parts of the country.
The academic year used to start early in the year, but now it begins in the middle of the year. This year's academic year will run from August 6 to June 13 next year.
