Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) to develop a picnic island in Velidhoo, Noonu Atoll, and the harbour in Dhidhdhoo, Alifu Dhaalu Atoll.
The agreement was signed by the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim and the Director General of the Planning Ministry Fathimath Shaana Farooq. Parliamentarian Mohamed Abdulla Shafeeq was also in attendance at the signing ceremony.
The scope of works for the Velidhoo picnic island project includes harbour basin dredging operations of 3,090cbm, channel dredging operations of 30,070cbm, and the construction of a 51m breakwater. It also includes the construction of a 122m sand-filled breakwater - outer revetment, 135m sand-filled breakwater - inner revetment, 38m groyne, 30m quay wall, and the installation of harbour lights and navigation lights. MTC is tasked with completing the project within 180 days at a cost of US1.3 million.
Additionally, The scope of the works for the Dhidhdhoo Harbour Development Project includes reclamation operations of 61,200cbm, and the construction of a 50m groyne and 412m geobag revetment. MTCC is tasked with completing the project within 330 days at a cost of USD1.5 million.
