Gov't signs contract to build ice plant, cold storage in Maavah

Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture has signed an agreement with Fenaka Corporation Limited to establish a 25-tonne ice plant and 50-tonne cold storage facility in Maavah, Laamu Atoll.

The agreement was signed by Dr. Hussain Rasheed Hassan, Minister of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture, and Ahmed Saeed Mohamed, Managing Director of Fenaka. The objective of this collaboration is to bolster the fishing industry's infrastructure and efficiency.

Within a tight timeline of six months, the ice plant and cold storage facility are slated for completion, with a total projected cost of USD 356,679. The core aim of this initiative is to address the logistical challenges faced by fishermen in obtaining ice supplies.

The government is working to set up ice plants and cold storages in different parts of the country to provide ice to fishermen.
