MTCC mobilises Feridhoo harbour project site

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company Limited (MTCC) has mobilised the harbour development project site for Feridhoo, Alifu Alifu Atoll.

In January, the Ministry of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure contracted MTCC to upgrade the harbour within a year at a cost of USD3 million. The scope of works includes 24,000cbm new harbour basin dredging operations, maintenance dredging operations of 8,000cbm, and channel dredging operations of 4,000cbm. It also includes the construction of a 47m breakwater, 213m quay wall, 403m revetment, a ramp, concrete bridge, concrete Jetty, harbour pavement, and installation of navigational lights and harbour lights.

Feridhoo has a population of 800 residents. The local council stated that the harbour was built in the early 2000s and that it is one of the smallest harbours in the country. As such, the harbour is unable to accommodate the increasing number of vessels and previous governments were unable to provide a permanent solution. The council stated that residents are highly anticipating the construction of a large and modern harbour.
