Land plots in Filladhoo tourism zone to open for lease

Filladhoo Island Council has announced the availability of land plots for lease in the Filladhoo tourism zone.

The opportunity to submit applications for tourism-designated land in Filladhoo is open from August 28 to September 4. The council plans to lease 99 plots in the Filladhoo tourism zone, ranging from 5,000-115,000sqft, divided into three zones. The minimum price per square foot is set at USD3.24.

President of Filladhoo Council Fathuhulla Hassan explained that land is being allocated to foster diverse businesses that will positively impact residents. He highlighted the use of commercial land for council revenue and business benefits, ensuring sustainability. Allocation will consider offered prices and prioritise long-term landlords, with a minimum acquisition period of six years and consideration of financial capacity.

Filladhoo is one of the largest islands in the Maldives devoid local tourism. The council decided to direct land allocation away from residential zones, designating it for tourism within the defined Tourist Village area according to the land use plan.

The initiative holds immense significance for the growth of Filladhoo. A major aspiration linked to the tourism project is the enhancement of Hanimaadhoo International Airport in the region. The residents are hopeful that this endeavor will bring about a transformative impact on local tourism.
