President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and First Lady Fazna Ahmed have met with the Maldivian contingent participating in the 11th edition of the Indian Ocean Island Games (IOIG) held in Madagascar this year. The meeting was held at the Maldives Centre for Social Education (MCSE).
During the ceremony, the flag bearers for the Maldives at IOIG 2023 were announced as famous tennis player Abdulla Faih Fazeel and famous table tennis player Fathimath Dheema Ali. President Solih presented the flag to Fathimath Dheema Ali, which will be flown during the games.
A total of 176 athletes from the Maldives will participate in nine sporting events and a youth camp at this year’s IOIG, including table tennis, tennis, handball, para-athletics, swimming, and basketball. The games will be held in Madagascar from August 25 to September 3.
The administration says it places significant emphasis on providing opportunities for Maldivian athletes to realising potential and on fostering a talented, capable, and healthy young generation.
