Gamu Regional Hospital (GRH) has established an Advanced Wound Care Clinic to treat those suffering from long-term wounds. The clinic was established with the assistance of Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital and Medsilk Private Limited.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Deputy Chief Executive Officer of GRH Mohamed Shiyam said a large number of their patients had to be sent to Male' for advanced wound care treatment. As such, he said that the establishment of the clinic would be a great relief for their patients, as they now have access to cheap and convenient services.
GRH is the fifth hospital in the atolls to begin advanced wound care services. The GRH clinic is currently being run with the assistance of a medical team from IGMH. Senior team member Dr. Mohamed Waheed said diabetic ulcers, burns from fire incidents, and bedridden patients require regular treatment to heal. As such, he stressed the importance of advanced wound care services to quickly heal them.
The outpatient department of the Wound Care Clinic will be open once a week. Doctor visits, treatment, and medication will be provided regularly. Dr. Waheed said that the clinic will arrange appointments and follow-up appointments after the patient registers in order to provide its services in a convenient manner.
GRH nurses and doctors are currently trained to handle services at the clinic. In addition, the teams from GRH and IGHM have formed a link group to discuss the condition of the patients and services.
