Land plots have been opened for applications in Angolhitheemu, Raa Atoll, after 11 years.
Angolhitheemu Island Council has decided to allocate 32 land plots of 3,000sqft each, which are designated as vacant plots under the land use plan. Of the plots, 30 are located on the southeastern side of the island while the other two are located on the southwest.
Interested parties are required to submit their application by September 20. Applicants must be at least 18 years of age and should not possess a registered land plot. They should also not have a government-built flat registered in their name, or they must have released any registered land plot or flat at least two years prior.
Speaking to PSM News, President of Angolhitheemu Island Council Faisal Naseem noted that land plots were last allocated 11 years ago and that residents are greatly in need of housing. He said that the council will prioritise providing the land plots to non-homeowners and families with children with special needs.
Additionally, Faisal highlighted that Angolhitheemu has enough land area and that the land use plan was formulated to be feasible for the next 20 years. He also said that the designated 3,000sqft space for each land plot is liable to change based on the changes to the adjacent streets.
