Maldives National University (MNU) has introduced awards to be given out at the Theveli International Conference.
Theveli International Conference 2023 was held from August 21-22. The sixth edition was held under the theme Research for Informed Policy Decisions. A total of 161 abstracts were submitted and 143 abstracts were accepted for the conference.
Speaking to PSM News, Junior Technical Expert at MNU Fathimath Nafha Asim said that this year's conference opened the opportunity to submit research papers from various fields for awards nomination. The awards include the Outstanding Paper of the Conference Award and the Early Career Researchers Award. She said that the winners included those who submitted research papers in diverse fields such as the environment, Maldivian language, and pediatrics.
Speaking on behalf of the University, Senior Research Fellow at the MNU Research Development Office Dr. Shazla Mohamed said the Early Career Awards wereopen to students who are currently studying or have completed their research this year and that the Outstanding Paper of the Conference awards were open for long-term researchers. She said the papers go through a peer review process by experts and committees before they are awarded.
MNU stated that this year's Theveli conference received an overwhelmingly positive response from the Maldives and abroad. The conference was attended by students and staff from MNU, Maldives Marine Research Institute, and other colleges and institutions. Attendees also consisted of individuals from Bangladesh, Australia, Cyprus, the UK, Japan, Malaysia, Oman, Bahrain, Croatia, India and Pakistan.
