Maldives Customs Service has commenced a project to construct an office building in Maafaru, Noonu Atoll.

The construction of the Customs office building is part of the government's policy to decentralise services and expand them in the atolls. The foundation stone for the building was laid by Commissioner General of Customs Abdulla Shareef, Parliamentarian Ahmed Haroon, and Deputy Commissioner of Customs Mahmood Riyaz.

Speaking at the ceremony, Commissioner General Shareef said the office building is an important milestone in the structural development of Customs. He said the office will play an important role in providing Customs services to businesses and the general public in the northern region.

Customs has contracted Future Homes Private Limited for the construction of the office building in Maafaru. The company is tasked with completing the project within 540 days at a cost of USD434,500. The scope of the project includes an office space and an accommodation block.
