Vice President Faisal Naseem has inaugurated a new reverse osmosis (RO) plant at the Hulhumale' Operation Centre operated by the Male' Water and Sewerage Company Private Limited (MWSC).
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Vice President Naseem said the establishment of the RO plant guarantees an adequate water supply for the growing population of Hulhumale'. He also affirmed the government's commitment to establishing clean water supply systems in the areas allocated for new residential land plots.
Additionally, Vice President Naseem expressed his belief that the initiative to establish clean water supply systems should be expanded for the next 10 years. He added that any issues in the 24-hour delivery of clean water would be a great hindrance to citizens.
Also at the ceremony, Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah said the new RO plant can produce up to 3,000cbm of water per day and was built with the assistance of Hitachi Limited.
The demand for water is increasing in the Greater Male' Region. MWSC stated that it produces 20,000cbm of water every day for Male'. In addition, Hulhumale' currently uses 11,000cbm of water per day and MWSC is in the process of increasing the production of water by 13,000cbm.
