The Stipendium Hungaricum Scholarship has been awarded to 25 Maldivian students this year.
The scholarship programme is being awarded under an agreement signed in 2021 between the Ministry of Higher Education and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade of Hungary. The send-off ceremony for scholarship students was organised by Honorary Consul General of Hungary in the Maldives Mohamed Ali Janah and held at Hotel Jen in Male' City. The ceremony was attended by Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan, Minister of Tourism Abdulla Mausoom and state officials and dignitaries.
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Hassan welcomed the scholarship awardees and underscored the importance of taking necessary precautions while pursuing education abroad. He encouraged the students to uphold exemplary conduct during their studies and make the most of their learning experiences.
Meanwhile, Honorary Consul General Janah expressed gratitude to the Government of Hungary for extending the scholarship opportunities. He disclosed that the students will be commencing their studies in September.
Under the programme, a total of 75 students are set to receive scholarships. So far, 38 students have been granted the prestigious award. These students will study at various Hungarian universities and undertake a diverse array of courses such as Geography, Psychology, and Information Technology (IT). All educational expenses will be funded by the Government of Hungary, while the Government of Maldives will cover the cost of air tickets.
Last year, a total of 15 scholarship opportunities were available, however, the number was increased to 25 following a request from President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. The role played by Honorary Consul General Janah was pivotal in securing the expanded scholarship opportunities.
