MTCC to build Muli-Naalaafushi causeway, Mulah harbour

Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for the construction of a causeway connecting Muli and Naalaafushi and the development of a harbour in Mulah. The two agreements for the projects to be conducted in Meemu Atoll were signed by the Director General at the Planning Ministry Fathimath Shana Farooq and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim.

The project to connect Muli and Naalaafushi with a causeway was awarded to MTCC to be completed within 600 days at a cost of USD8 million. The scope of the project includes the construction of a 565m causeway with a 105m bridge in three segments. The causeway will also include the construction of a 112m revetment and a 15m groyne.

MTCC is also tasked with developing a harbour in Mulah. The company is tasked with completing the project within 485 days at a cost of USD4 million. The scope of the project includes 44,500cbm excavation operations and 23,100cbm dredging operations. The project also includes the construction of a 253m breakwater, a 210m quay wall, a 13m submerged breakwater, a 53m revetment, a 284m apron, and the installation of 57 mooring rings and eight mooring buoys, as well as navigational aids.
