President reveals plan to upgrade Hinnavaru Port

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed his plan to develop the port at Hinnavaru, Lhaviyani Atoll, to a commercial port to provide services to foreign ships.

At a campaign event in his native island of Hinnavaru, President Solih addressed the concerns of the residents regarding the lack of infrastructure development in the island. He also highlighted that the housing issue has caused many residents to move to Male', adding that previous governments had been negligent towards Hinnavaru.

Additionally, President Solih provided details on his development plan for Hinnavaru in his second term. He said that he would develop 200 housing units or row houses and establish water and sewerage networks in the newly reclaimed land as well as begin the development of a hospital.

Furthermore, President Solih said that the Hinnavaru port can be further developed to allow large foreign ships to load and unload goods. He also pledged to build a sports complex and additional classrooms as well as construct a football ground and place nearby Gaaerifalhu under the jurisdiction of Hinnavaru.
