The Addu City Council has released the permanent list of eligible recipients for land plots.
The council has made the decision to allocate 1,000 land plots across various locations, including Hithadhoo, Feydhoo, Meedhoo, and Hulhudhoo. Out of a total of 4,160 applications submitted for land plots in Addu, 4,052 were deemed eligible. The distribution of these land plots to individuals on the permanent recipient list will occur in two phases. The first phase will include the allocation of 500 plots from Hithadhoo, 300 from Feydhoo, and 100 each from Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo.
The council has outlined its intention to distribute land to other eligible individuals on the list once the land use plan and land survey for the additional neighborhoods are completed. The council's target is to allocate land to all recipients on the list by June 2024. The administrative procedures necessary for the allocation of the initial 1,000 plots in the first phase are expected to be finalised by November, with the land being transferred to the recipients by the end of December.
It has been over 20 years since land plots have been given out in Addu, the second-largest city in the Maldives.
