Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) for the development of the harbour Fulidhoo, Vaavu Atoll.
MTCC has been tasked to complete the project in 465 days at a cost of USD4.1 million. The scope of the project includes 41,413cbm new harbour basin dredging operations, 7,812cbm channel dredging operations, and 30,708cbm sand for reclamation operations. In addition, the project includes the construction of a 439m revetment, 174m geobag revetment, 77m breakwater, 25m groyne, 300m quay wall, 40m RC Bridge, 1,450sqm pavement, and the installation of navigational and harbor lights. The project is scheduled to begin after an Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is conducted.
The current harbour in Fulidhoo, an island with approximately 500 residents, is limited in terms of its size and capacity.
