Laparoscopic surgery begins in Kulhudhuffushi Hospital

Kulhudhuffushi Regional Hospital (KRH) has launched another phase of its Laparoscopic surgery and advanced wound care outreach programme.

The programme involves an increased number of surgeries performed at the hospital, starting with a laparoscopic hernia operation. The surgical team is led by the experienced laparoscopic surgeon and Head of the General Surgery Department, Senior Consultant Surgery Dr. Abdulla Ubaid, along with Assistant Medical Director and Head of the Surgery Department, Consultant Sub-Specialist at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH) Dr. Mohamed Waheed. In addition, a team of doctors and nurses from both IGMH and KRH are actively participating in the programme.

So far, Laparoscopic and advanced wound care services have been launched at IGMH, Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital (ASMH) in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, and Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital in Raa Atoll. These outreach programmes at regional hospitals across the atolls have alleviated the need for patients to travel to Male' City for medical consultations. Major hospitals in the country, in collaboration with IGMH, now offer laparoscopic surgeries with minimal incisions, along with advanced wound care services catering to patients with long-term wounds.
