Land reclamation in Hulhumale' for land plots begins

Housing Development Cooperation Limited (HDC) has announced the commencement of land reclamation in Hulhumale' for recipients under the Binveriya Housing scheme.

HDC stated that Sri Lankan-based Capital Marine and Civil Construction Company Private Limited (CMCC) will reclaim 63 hectares of land from Hulhumale' Phase III as part of the project. The newly reclaimed land in Hulhumale' will also be used for housing and land will be allocated for the establishment of public services for the residents in the area. The company was awarded the project on August 21.

Project Manager at HDC Hussain Hanan Ahmed said the land reclamation project will be carried out in phases. He said the first phase focuses on reclaiming 10 hectares of Site A and will be completed in two weeks. He said the entire project is expected to be completed within six weeks.

HDC has cleared vessels from Site A and has requested vessels at the 29-hectare Site B and 24-hectare Site C to be cleared as well. HDC plans to establish designated anchoring areas around Hulhumale', Kudagiri, and Dhiyanaru lagoons for these displaced vessels, requiring owners to register with HDC for access.

The government has decided to issue land from Hulhumale’, Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu under the Binveriya scheme. The initiative includes 1,351 plots of land from Hulhumale’, 2,218 plots from Gulhifalhu, and 5,432 plots from Giraavarufalhu.
