President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that his administration will provide land plots to Maldivians in Uthuru Thila Falhu, which the opposition claims is owned by India.
At a campaign event, President Solih said that his administration will provide housing to residents of islands living in Male' under the newly announced scheme. As such, applications can be submitted by individuals registered in Male' and those who have lived in Male' for 20 years.
Additionally, President Solih said that one of the areas set for land plot provision is Uthuru Thila Falhu, assuring that the island will only be inhabited by Maldivian citizens. He also said that the construction of the Thilamale' Bridge will end after connecting to Uthuru Thila Falhu. He added that these are part of the efforts to develop the Maldives into a peaceful and appealing country for citizens.
The administration of President Solih initiated the Binveriya housing scheme, marking the first time in 30 years that land plots were made available to residents of Male'. Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure began handing over land plots in the Greater Male' Region in August. The government is providing over 9,000 land plots to residents of Male' under the scheme. The plots are being allocated from Hulhumale' Phase II and by reclaiming Gulhi Falhu and Giraavaru Falhu. A total of 19,639 individuals have been deemed eligible in the final list for the Binveriyaa scheme. The ministry plans to give out around 5,400 land plots from Giraavaru Falhu, 2,200 from Gulhi Falhu, and 1,300 from Hulhumale' Phase II.
